München RFC : TSV Handschuhsheim II

32 : 8

For the first home game of the new season Munich were looking forward to continuing our good record in front of the home fans. For the game the weather was perfect and the pitch in great condition for a game of rugby. From Kick off Munich demonstrated how they intend to continue playing this season by running well and tackling hard. After some open play, Robert Schuster made a good break, and having stepped passed several would be tacklers he scored the first try for Munich. This open play continued and after another period of pressure another try was scored from a ruck on the Handschuhsheim 5 yard line when the ball was passed wide for Owain Williams to dive over. Next to score was Jonathan Fuller - playing at 10 on his MRFC debut Jonathan crossed the line after a well worked move.
Throughout this game the Munich pack was able to provide good ball, both from the scrum and the lineout and we were also able to disrupt the opposition lineout on several occaisions. This advantage was used to good effect with some intelligent use of the boot from the backline to give us better position on the field. Munich's next scorer was another debutant - Michele Martone playing on the wing who scored after some excellent support running to receive an offload and touch down the try. Michele was unlucky not to have scored twice in this game, as another offload to him was adjudged to be forward by the referee. After half time, towards the end of the hour mark, substitutions were made in the pack, and this caused some disruption to the flow of the game, however Munich were able to continue with good ball handling and manufactured another score - this time from our fullback Xavier Mora. With more substitutions made the flow was again disrupted, and after a period of good pressure around the ruck area, Handschuhsheim were able to drive over for their first and only try of the game. Following on from the opposition score, Munich were determined not to let them score again, and to ensure that Munich also scored again. This attitude led MRFC to play the remaining part of the game mostly in the opposition 22 and a few errors prevented us from scoring more tries. Eventually the pressure told, and a bad Handschuhsheim clearance kick was fielded on the halfway and the ball was run in to the corner of the park, where Fionn Harnischfeger picked up an offload from the runner to touch down for  the last score, and last move of the game.
