RC Stusta München : München RFC
12 : 11

On a very warm and sunny Saturday MRFC travelled across town to take on the local rivals in the away leg of the Munich Derby. MRFC were fired up before the game as we had not won in StuSta for quite some time, and we wanted to return from the game holding the silverware. From kickoff it was clear that this was going to be a very hard fought game – with neither team backing down in the contact area. Soon into the game MRFC won two penalties but we were unable to convert, and then after a sustained period of pressure where we were unable to get over the try line, a drop goal attempt led to a 22 dropout that allowed StuSta to clear their lines. Throughout the game the flow of the play was often disrupted by penalties given away from both teams, and the narrow nature of the pitch limited the number of chances to get the ball wide. Eventually the students broke the deadlock and were able to score a converted try. Two penalties from Munich meant that at the half time break the score had just a point in it at 7-6 to the Students. After the half time break the game resumed in the same grain, with neither team able to make a decisive play to change the game. Towards the end of the game it looked like Munich might have managed to cross the try line, but the referee ruled out the score.
Shortly before the end of the game, the Students were able to drive over for close range score which they were unable to convert – Munich now needed a converted score to take the lead and the game, but unfortunately although Munich found an opening and scored a try but sadly were unable to convert leaving the score at the ends of the game 12-11 to the students.
