Würzburg, 25. Oktober 2014, Bericht: Owain Williams

Würzburger RK : München RFC II
3 : 22

A comfortable start to the day was a given travelling as we were by car to Wurzburg. Meeting time was a nice late 9am. Somehow Konstantin Notkuhl missed this but we travelled onwards with just 18 players. Arriving at the new Wurzburg pitch we had some time to relax and warm up a little in their sports hall. With the game underway Munich wasted no time. Good clearing from a ruck opened space for scrum half Steve to make a clean 40 yard break for the first score of the game, a converted try under the sticks. After this the game was played a little in the Munich 22 but good defence from the MRFC II gave only 3 points to Wurzburg. Midway through the second half Munich woke up again and spotted an opening out wide. After the ball went through the hands of half the team Luca crashed over for a 5 pointer. After this the game broke down a little although Munich had a few opportunities for more points. Turning down the 3 points on offer from penalties on more than 3 occasions led to missed scores as the lineout option did not function as well as it had done earlier in the game. In the second half Munich  started keenly again and after some time spent just inside the opponents half Uwe threw a sweet dummy and proceeded on a mazy run through the opposition 22 to score bring MRFC II to 17-3 in our favour. As legs got tired the game again broke down a little but a late tackle on Arnaud gave the team space to draw breath as Arnaud counted his ribs and crawled off the floor to continue. And nice crossfield kick from the resulting play almost led to a try for Bilinho who was lurking out on the wing but he was stopped just short after his catch and sprint. Munich continued to apply pressure and committed defence prevented Wurzburg making it past the Munich 10 yard line again in the match. As the game was nearly gone it looked like the final score was already written but in the dying minutes the team came together for one last push. Taking the ball from the last scrum of many in the match, Antoine made a nice 'Mr Christian' and having moved the ball wide before contact the ball went again through the hands before Alex found a gap and got the bonus point for the MRFC II.
