München RFC : TSV Handschuhsheim II
31 : 21

Another beautiful sunny day at Großhadern saw a fast flowing and dynamic performance by MRFC that keeps them top of the 2. Bundesliga. After a strong start to the season and a dramatic 22-22 draw against local rivals Stusta last week, the lions were feeling confident going into the game looking for revenge for last seasons grand final loss. Munich started strongly with Antoine Ducardonnet gaining metres in attack and showing ruthless defence that earns him the Hammer prize. The lions were playing free flowing rugby and the pace of the game was too much for the big TSV pack. After just 5 minutes of the game Max Fenske saw some space and broke the line to score under the posts. Fenske was a constant threat at 10, attacking the line and putting a marker down on his return to MRFC. Javier Gonzalez successfully converted. Munich were dominating the set piece thanks to Gerd Gehard and Ducardonnet showing strength in the scrum against a much bigger pack and Maxime Gelly throwing with accuracy in the line out. It was from a line out that Munich got their next score at 15 minutes. A perfectly formed maul from a catch and drive marched TSV down the field and allowed the hard working Antoine Miguet to dot the ball down over the line. A few minutes later and an error from TSV gave the quick thinking Alex Schranz the ball. He then was able to set up the man of the match Englishman James Bratton to run unopposed over the line. Gonzalez converted to make it 19-0. TSV came back into the game and as the game was coming up to half time the Bavarians were under pressure. Another great turn over gave the ball to the electric Giacomo Bernobi who broke from 75 metres down the blind side. Number 8 Scott Warner was in support to take the ball past the half way line and then the flying Julian Kohlein received the pass and burnt down the touch line to score in the corner on the stroke of halftime. Gonzalez converted to give MRFC a 26-0 lead.
In the second half TSV came back into the game as expected from a strong and well organised team. Munich conceded 3 tries but continued to be calm and controlled in attack. Another set piece allowed try machine Maxime Gelly to add to his total and finally seal the game with 10 minutes to go 31-21.
A controlled and ruthless performance from MRFC showed how far the team has come and how hard the players have worked over the last 12 months.
