TSV Handschuhsheim II : München RFC
12 : 18

After a long 4 month winter break the MRFC players were looking forward to getting back into competitive action and the second half of the season could not have started tougher with a top of the table clash with TSV Handschuhsheim. Two weeks previously Munich had traveled with a mixed squad to Vienna for a friendly which certainly gave the players an edge at the start of the game. MRFC came flying out of the blocks with fast and aggressive running. The beautiful sunshine and fantastic artificial surface worked to Munich's advantage as scrum half Robbie Schuster moved the big Handshuhsheim pack around the field. Despite the sustained pressure and a yellow card for Handschuhsheim's prop forward it was the Heidelberg club who opened the scoring with a break away opportunistic kick through which was touched down by the pacey winger. Munich stuck to the game plan and continued moving the ball around and dominating the set piece thanks to a scrummaging and lineout masterclass from Gerd Gehards, Karl Wolf and Richard Schuster.
New Fly Half Sandro Tschaidse directed the back line superbly and showed excellent decision making to take advantage of the pace of Sebastian Schüppel and the power of David Clegg. It was Schüppel, who eventually opened the scoring for MRFC as he found space outside and ran the ball under the posts. Tschaidse converted to make the score 7-5 to Munich. Both sides then exchanged big carries and big tackles. The Back Row combination of Lucas Marchi and Sidney Brenner worked hard in both attack and defence and this led to the second try which was an outstanding effort from Man of the Match Schüppel who broke through 3 tackles to score taking Munich's lead to 12-5. Munich were able to use a very strong bench which meant fresh legs could come into the game in the closing stages. Antoine Miguet, Nik Graf and Nino Haase worked tirelessly to close out the game while Alex Loders continued to show the Handschuhsheim front row a thing or two about scrummaging. Argentinian flyer Javier Gonzalez replaced the excellent Alex Schranz at full back and added some much needed experience as well as making a magnificent try saving tackle that kept Munich in the lead.
Tschaidse kicked 2 well earned penalties to take MRFC's lead out to an unassailable 18-5. The Heidelberg club were not going to go down without a fight and continued to push and eventually scored a well deserved try to secure the losing bonus point and a final score of 18-12.
